Auckland

Auckland is an urban environment where everyone lives within half an hour of beautiful beaches, hiking trails and a dozen enchanted holiday islands including Waiheke Island and Great Barrier Islands.

It has a warm, sunny climate, a background rhythm of Polynesian culture and a passion for outstanding food, wine and shopping. In the Maori language, Auckland is known as Tamaki Makau Rau, the city of 100 lovers. It earned this name because it was a place desired by all and conquered by many.

The Auckland region is an antipasto of environments laid out on a huge platter to make one amazing city, boasting three harbours, two mountain ranges, 48 volcanic cones and more than 50 islands. Auckland's population is approximately 1.3 million, making it by far the largest city in New Zealand, with one third of the country's entire population.

Auckland is a gourmet lovers delight - hundreds of restaurants, locally-grown specialties and award-winning wines to match. "Pacific Rim" cuisine is an Auckland specialty, fusing Pacific and Asian flavours with fresh local produce. Most of Auckland's unique places and major attractions are within half an hour of the central city.

Whether you rent a car, catch a bus or a train or board a ferry, you'll quickly be where you want to be. For those who prefer the convenience of a tour, you can choose from a range of operators offering a variety of sightseeing trips and experiences.

Travelling to Auckland is easy with the Auckland International Airport only 10 kilometers from the city centre. The airport has daily flights from Asia, the United States and Europe (via Singapore) and from all around New Zealand.

New Zealand
New Zealand is situated in the South Pacific Ocean. The country runs roughly north to south with mountain ranges down much of its length. New Zealand's two main islands cover 266,200 square kilometres (103,735 square miles), about the size of Japan or California and slightly larger than Great Britain. New Zealand's separation from other land masses for more than 100 million years has allowed many ancient plants and animals to survive and evolve in isolation.

Complementing our unique flora and fauna is a landscape that contains an unrivalled variety of landforms. In a couple of days' drive it is possible to see everything from mountain ranges to sandy beaches, lush rainforests, glaciers and fiords and active volcanoes. New Zealand's awesome landscapes, lush forests, amazing wildlife and pleasant climate make it a haven for many outdoor activities, and a great place to unwind.

And the great advantage of New Zealand travel is that all of its diverse physical, cultural, and artistic landscapes are so close to each other!

New Zealand offers an unlimited selection of quality tourist attractions, activities and adventure for a fun filled vacation while in New Zealand. Experience the adrenalin rush from bungy jumping (Taupo Bungy, right) or relax and enjoy the relaxing sights while tramping in one of New Zealand's National Parks. New Zealand attractions have everything to suit anyone of any age.

New Zealand society is diverse, sophisticated, and multicultural, and the honesty, friendliness, and openness of Kiwis will impress you. It has a very unique and dynamic culture. The culture of its indigenous Maori people affects the language, the arts, and even the accents of all New Zealanders.

Their place in the South Pacific and their love of the outdoors, sport, and the arts make New Zealanders and their culture unique in the world.
